The Met Office has an Amber Extreme Heat warning in force, with temperatures forecast to peak around 37°C in parts of England this week. It follows what's already been one of the hottest summers on record, with several separate heatwave episodes since May and a flash drought that's left southern England unusually dry heading into what's normally a cooler month.
UKHSA has also issued Heat Health Alerts alongside the Met Office warning, meaning significant impacts are expected across health and social care services. The advice for anyone at home during the peak of the heat is the same as it's been all summer: close curtains on the sunny side of the house during the day, keep windows shut until the outside temperature drops below indoor temperature in the evening, and check on anyone elderly or vulnerable nearby.
